Funeral Liaison

funeralliaisonFuneral Liaison Committee offers support, prayers and guidance to grieving families who wish to prepare a personalized funeral for a loved one. The volunteer meets with the family, usually at the church, to plan the Mass.

 

 

Volunteer Position     Funeral Liaison Minister
Required of Volunteer Sensitivity and compassion for the grieving; comfortable interaction with those who are experiencing a loss; a sense of the healing powers of scriptures and music selected for a funeral liturgy; available during the day and, if needed, on a weekend.
Experience Necessary No
Training Required 2 two-hour sessions.
When is Training Scheduled as needed.
Time Commitment Flexible. 1-2 hours when called to help; teams rotate.

    Intercessions

    Intercessions committee meets weekly so that writers can prepare intercessions for upcoming weekend Masses, Holy Days, Civic Holidays, and other special celebrations to include current needs.

    Volunteer Position     Intercession Committee Member
    Required of the Volunteer Practicing Catholic, registered parishioner. A strong prayer life; good understanding of Scripture; love for and willingness to reflect on Scripture, and strong writing skills. Computer skills are a plus, but not required.
    Experience Necessary No
    Training Required Participation in the process.
    Time Commitment Attendance at meetings, scheduled according to group need. Weekly personal prayer time spent in reflection on upcoming Sunday or feast day scripture readings.

      Liturgical Environment

      Liturgical Environment Committee ministers maintain and create the physical environment surrounding the Mass and liturgical events to enhance the worship experience.

      • Volunteer Position: Many opportunities with various ministry teams.
      • Required of volunteer: Must be a Registered parishioner and have a desire to serve the Lord and our faith community.
      • Ministry Teams: Alcove candles, chapel care, holy water fonts, linens, misallettes, peew racks, plant care and vessel cleaning..
      • Experience necessary: No
      • Training required: No
      • Time commitment: All ministers are required to attend one meeting a year and an annual workshop. Time required will vary for each ministry.

      Ministers of Hospitality

      HospitalityMinisters of Hospitality are men, women, teens and children of all ages who welcome and host weekend Masses as well as Holy Day Masses, Civic Holiday Masses and special occasions. These ministers create a welcoming and prayerful atmosphere for worship. They greet and seat people in a caring and orderly manner while assisting those with special needs. They also direct Communion lines with reverent attention and assist with the Offertory Collection. Seasonal ministers are always needed.

      Volunteer Position     Minister of Hospitality
      Required of the Volunteer Registered parishioner who exhibits characteristics of hospitality.
      Experience Necessary No
      Training Required One workshop.
      When is Training Scheduled as needed.
      Time Commitment Serve at same Mass every 3 weeks or more frequently. Willingness to volunteer for Masses celebrating special events as able. Required to attend an annual workshop.

        Life Teen Band at the 5:00 pm Sunday Mass

        This worship band comprises singers and instrumentalists, from middle school up to adult, who provide music at the 5:00 pm Sunday Life Teen Mass. You must be very proficient with your instrument or vocals. Other activities include Outreach Concerts, full weekend retreats and other music events.  Contact Jeff Fitzcharles at the Parish Office 727.726.8477 x306.

        Choirs for Saturday Vigil Mass and Sunday Masses

        6:00 pm Saturday Vigil Choir
        Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:00 pm and Saturday before Mass from 5:00 pm to 5:50 pm.

        8:30 am Sunday Family Choir
        Choir-VigilRehearsals are Mondays from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Membership is not limited to families; children, teens and adults participate. Instrumentalists are always welcome.

        10:15 am Sunday Choir
        Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. Participants include high school youth and adults.

        Noon Sunday Ensemble
        Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm.

        Music Ministry

        Music Ministry is for men, women, teens and children who wish to praise the Lord through music. Vocalists and instrumentalists are welcome. Espiritu Santo has several choirs:

        6:00 pm Saturday Vigil Choir
        Rehearsals are Thursdays from 7:00 pm and Saturday before Mass from 5:00 pm to 5:50 pm.

        8:30 am Sunday Family Choir

        Seasonal Choirs are formed for special occasions and include the Festival Choir which ministers at Christmas Midnight Mass, the Triduum Choir which ministers at Holy Week Liturgies.

         

        Volunteer Position     Vocal and/or Instrumental Music Minister
        Required of the Volunteer Able to sing or play an instrument. Must be a registered Parishioner.
        Experience Necessary No experience for choir members. Instrumentalists and cantors should exhibit a level of competency necessary for the ministry and may be required to audition for the music director.
        Training Required Yes. Rehearsal with Cantor before scheduled Mass.
        Time Commitment: Weekly rehearsal, singing at the same Mass each week, annual workshop.

          Sacristans

          Sacristan2Sacristans prepare and clear the altar vessels for Mass on weekends, weekdays and for special occasions. Sacristan-servers also serve as altar servers for weekday Masses, weddings, funerals or special occasions when youth servers are not available.

           

           

           

           

          Volunteer Position     Sacristan
          Required of the Volunteer Practicing Catholic, registered parishioner in good standing with the Church. Exhibits great love for the Mass and reverence for all vessels that are used for its celebration. Good organizational skills are a plus.
          Experience Necessary No
          Training Required Regular Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist training and one-on-one training with a skilled sacristan. Training is on an individual basis. Required to attend one sacristan organizational meeting a year and one annual workshop.
          Time Commitment Depends upon sacristan schedule and your availability.

            Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

            EM

            Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest in the sacred ministry of giving the Body and Blood of Christ to the assembled community. They welcome each person as a brother or sister in the Lord and make the moment of Communion a faith-filled encounter with the living Christ. Each candidate for this ministry must be a registered parishioner of Espiritu Santo in good standing with the church.

             

             

             

             

              Volunteer Position     Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion
              Experience Necessary No
              Training Required Attendance is required at three weekend workshops for preparation and one annual workshop in the Fall.
              When is Training Training sessions are held twice a year in January and September
              Time Commitment Ministers serve at one of the weekend Masses every 3rd Sunday with the opportunity to serve at weekday Masses and special events. Weekday and holyday ministers serve as their schedules allow

                Altar Servers

                The ministry of altar server includes boys and girls in grades 4 and above. These young people will assist the priest or deacon in the celebration of the Mass and other special liturgies. Parents must be registered parishioners of Espiritu Santo.

                 

                 

                 

                 

                Volunteer Position     Altar Server
                Required of the Volunteer Those who have received First Holy Communion and are in the 4th grade and above are eligible to become altar servers.  Candidates must be able to learn reverence and accept responsibility.
                Experience Necessary No
                Training Required Five mandatory workshops held on Sunday afternoons. Training is important even if you have served at another Church.
                When is Training In the Fall.
                Time Commitment Serve at assigned Mass every 3 weeks, on a rotating basis, and as scheduled for special liturgies. Attendance at an annual meeting is required.

                  Adult and Teen Lectors

                  LectorLectors are those men and women who proclaim God’s Word at weekday and weekend Masses and at special services. Good public speaking skills and a passion for the Word of the Lord are required for this ministry.  Lector Schedule Through 2/4 Lector Schedule 2/11-4/8

                  Volunteer Position     Adult Lector
                  Required of the Volunteer Practicing Catholic, of college age and older, registered parishioner in good standing with the Church. Must exhibit high quality reading skills with ability to proclaim well the Word of God. Love for Scripture and willingness to reflect on its message.
                  Experience Necessary No
                  Training Required Audition required. If accepted must attend 2 workshops. Required to attend an annual workshop.
                  When is Training Scheduled as needed.
                  Time Commitment: Weekend lectors read once every 3-4 weeks. Must be committed to spend needed time in preparation before each assignment.

                  Teen Lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord at the 8:30 am Masses and 5:00 pm Life Teen Masses on Sunday. Parents should be registered Espiritu Santo parishioners.

                  Volunteer Position     Teen Lector
                  Required of the Volunteer Must be in 6th-12th grade and have high quality oral reading skills with an ability to proclaim well the Word of God.
                  Experience Necessary No
                  Training Required Upon acceptance into the program there is ongoing formation.
                  When is Training Practice is required the week before you read, usually on Tuesdays at 5:00 p.m. in the Church.
                  Time Commitment All Lectors are assigned to read once every 3-6 weeks. Must be committed to spend the needed time in preparation before each assignment and attend practice.
